Virginia’s fresh market vegetable producers harvested more than 20 thousand acres in 2001. Those vegetables were valued at more than 66 million dollars! That’s a lot of green.
Virginia produces a large variety of vegetables. From tomatoes… to sweet corn… to potatoes… it can be grown here. Vegetables make up 9 percent of crops grown in Virginia… and almost 3 percent of all agriculture commodities in the state! Producers are either harvesting or planting all kinds of vegetable crops at least 11 months out of the year in the Commonwealth.
