The State Fair of Virginia has celebrated the state’s rich heritage in agriculture since the first fair in 1854… Every year, the State Fair helps to advance students through scholarships and encourage friendly competition in a fun atmosphere.

ABCs of Agriculture informs about Virginia's farming community and how it affects you. ABCs of Agriculture are produced by the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) - an educational program which encourages and enhances agricultural literacy in Grades K-5 and 6-8.

Hello, and welcome to the ABC’s of Agriculture! We’re here today to talk about the letter S which stands for State Fair … Today we are in beautiful Caroline County at The Meadow Farm… the new site for the State Fair of Virginia…

Many of you may think that the State Fair is all about the rides and delicious food! But, the State Fair got its start from agriculture.

The State Fair of Virginia has celebrated the state’s rich heritage in agriculture since the first fair in 1854… Every year, the State Fair helps to advance students through scholarships and encourage friendly competition in a fun atmosphere…

Every fall, thousands of people from all across the commonwealth enter State Fair of Virginia competitions…

Nineteen of the fair’s competitions offer scholarships to students that compete… Since 1989…the State Fair of Virginia has awarded more than 14 hundred scholarships and has dedicated nearly one and a half million dollars through the State Fair Scholarship Program.

School tours through the Fair’s Educational Exposition officer students a chance to learn through hands on experiences that feature Virginia’s agriculture, history, technology and livestock…

The State Fair purchased the land at The Meadow Farm in Caroline County and targets moving the celebration there by 2007…

Any idea how many children attend the State Fair…. In 2004, 98 thousand four hundred and 43 children came to the State Fair with their families.
